What is this journal all about?

This journal is for pre-K-6th grade aged girls.

Our goal is to inspire ALL girls to grow their Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) mindsets and to view their everyday surroundings and activities as an arsenal of fascinating STEAM connections. This journal was created by high school girls for young girls. All proceeds will go to after-school STEAM programming for underprivileged girls.

Why does this matter?

Well, "Women make up only 30 percent of the science and engineering workforce today—yet this male-dominated group are the people who are designing our gadgets, building machines and tools that are used in health and environmental care, coming up with algorithms that determine a lot of what happens on social media and more" - from project lead Sonia Dhingra's article in the Scientific American

We did some research

There are no other journals like Girls Do STEAM. Because the lack of women in STE(A)M is such a pressing issue, parents and teachers are looking for rich, STEAM-relevant activities for their girls. We know that the younger that girls develop mindsets that allow them to embrace their STEAM identities and ask lots of questions, the better for everyone. If you visit Barnes and Noble or look through Amazon, there are plenty of journals for girls that focus on dreams, gratitude, building confidence, expressing yourself, and so on. Yet, none have to do with fostering STEAM.

100% of the profits from selling the journal will go toward funding after-school STEAM programs in underrepresented schools.
